"Private Operator Fraud Is the Core Issue" Changwon City Refutes Responsibility for Robot Land
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] "The essence is the private operator's embezzlement." On the 10th, Ryu Hyo-jong, Director of the Smart Innovation Industry Bureau of Changwon City, made this remark regarding Changwon City's loss in a lawsuit worth over 100 billion won against the operator of the Robot Land development project.
On the 10th, Director Ryu expressed deep regret over the statements made by the provincial assembly member and the person in charge concerning the "issue of non-provision of the pension site in the Robot Land development project."
At the Gyeongnam Province administrative audit held on the 9th, when asked why the city delayed providing the pension site, which is a contentious issue in the Robot Land development project lawsuit, the Gyeongnam Province official responded, "The pension parcel in question is not owned by the province but by Changwon City, so we do not have detailed information on the matter," adding, "We tried to obtain materials to analyze the reasons, but the city did not cooperate, so we are analyzing based only on fragmentary data through the Robot Land Foundation."
In response, Director Ryu said, "Since the private operator filed the lawsuit, from the selection of the first trial legal representative to the sixth hearing, the administration has shared and responded to all matters together. This statement is difficult to understand," and added, "It can only be seen as an unconscious remark made in response to the provincial assembly member's criticism following the first trial loss."
Regarding the remark by Assemblyman Kim Il-su that the city's failure to submit materials seems like an admission of fault, Director Ryu said, "It is a deeply regrettable and inappropriate statement given that the appeal trial is ongoing," and added, "It is necessary to determine responsibility depending on the outcome of the lawsuit."
He further stated, "At a time when efforts are being made to normalize the Robot Land development project, the media's criticism of 'discord in lawsuit response' is not true," emphasizing that the province, city, and foundation, as joint project participants, are fully committed to jointly responding to the second trial lawsuit, deeply aware that this is the way to address the concerns of Changwon citizens and provincial residents."
