Unity Technologies' 'Unity' is a real-time 3D (RT3D) content development platform. Based on a real-time rendering engine, it is used in various fields and industries such as mobile, metaverse, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR).
LG Uplus plans to use Unity to develop a virtual office service scheduled for release next year and continue various collaborations with Unity Korea in metaverse technology fields. The virtual office is a metaverse service that allows avatars to go to work in a virtual space during remote work, enabling communication and collaboration with colleagues, providing an experience similar to meeting offline. The goal of the service is to create an efficient work environment even during non-face-to-face work.
Through this agreement, the two companies plan to establish cooperation measures in developing metaverse services in various fields, infrastructure construction, operation, and training of experts. Since early this year, they have been enhancing metaverse technology capabilities through active collaboration such as practical training, technical consulting, prototyping, and project cooperation.
In addition to the virtual office service, they plan to explore business cooperation and development of various metaverse-type services and content. To this end, LG Uplus intends to nurture in-house Unity experts and actively support the internalization of new media content technology, including metaverse.
Kim Insook, CEO of Unity Korea, said, “I am pleased to participate in building a virtual office that can bring a new breeze to work culture based on Unity’s metaverse platform technology,” and added, “We expect to provide various metaverse content and services, including the virtual office, through cooperation with LG Uplus.”
