Fire at Indian Children's Hospital... 4 Infants and Toddlers Dead
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] A fire broke out at a children's hospital in central India, resulting in the deaths of 4 infants and young children and the rescue of 36 others.
Local media, including the Hindustan Times, reported that a fire occurred around 9 p.m. the previous day in the intensive care unit of a children's hospital in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, central India.
Firefighters responded, but among the 40 patients in the intensive care unit, 4 infants and young children could not be rescued.
The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh expressed condolences, saying, "The death of children is an unbearable pain." Authorities are investigating the cause, with a high possibility that the fire was caused by a short circuit.
In India, frequent short circuits and electric leaks due to unstable power supply and lack of fire safety facilities have led to repeated hospital fires. On the 6th, a fire at a hospital in Ahmednagar city, Maharashtra state in the west, killed 11 patients. In March this year, a hospital fire in Mumbai and in April, a hospital fire in Virar each claimed about 10 lives.
