Progressive Party "Lee Jae-myung, Cowardly Excuse... Will Definitely Enact the Anti-Discrimination Law Within This Year"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] On the 9th, the Progressive Party criticized Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, for his remarks on the enactment of the Anti-Discrimination Act, calling them a "cowardly excuse."
On the same day, the Progressive Party's Kim Jae-yeon presidential campaign headquarters issued a statement, saying, "Candidate Lee Jae-myung ignored the existence and safety of fellow citizens with the cowardly excuse that the Anti-Discrimination Act is not an urgent matter."
The Progressive Party's Kim Jae-yeon campaign headquarters pointed out, "The Anti-Discrimination Act is a law that cannot be postponed even for a single day, to protect the dignity that allows me to live as 'myself,'" adding, "It is not something that can be delayed by saying it is 'not urgent' for the sake of certain groups' freedom to hate as they please."
They continued, "We do not need a candidate who is so preoccupied with vote calculations that they weigh the importance of human rights," and questioned, "Who and what kind of society is the 'fair and integrated society' that Candidate Lee spoke of as a reason for the Anti-Discrimination Act not being urgent?" They added, "Candidate Lee's remarks are no different from neglecting a society rife with discrimination and hatred while putting aside the values of coexistence and equality."
They also emphasized, "The enactment of the Anti-Discrimination Act cannot be delayed even for a single day," and stated, "Justice that has been delayed for 14 years must be restored this year. The Progressive Party will definitely achieve the enactment of the Anti-Discrimination Act within this year."
