Police Conduct Additional On-Site Inspection of Geumcheon Fire Extinguishing Agent Leak Incident
On the morning of the 23rd of last month, a carbon dioxide leak accident occurred at the Data Hub Center in Gasan-dong, Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, resulting in 20 casualties. Among them, 2 people received cardiopulmonary resuscitation while being transported to the hospital but were confirmed dead. [Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] The police have initiated an additional on-site inspection regarding the fire suppressant leakage accident that occurred at the new construction site of Gasan Metro Knowledge Industry Center in Geumcheon-gu, Seoul.
According to the police on the 9th, the Geumcheon Police Station in Seoul has been conducting an on-site inspection at the Gasan Metro Knowledge Industry Center, where the accident occurred, starting from around 1 PM today, together with safety management experts. This on-site inspection is the second since the incident on the 26th of last month.
The police have tentatively concluded that the worker A, who died in the accident, likely activated the problematic fire suppression system. However, it is reported that no direct evidence supporting this has been secured. The police are also conducting digital forensic analysis on A's mobile phone.
The accident occurred at around 8:52 AM on the 23rd of last month in the basement of the new construction site of Gasan Metro Knowledge Industry Center in Geumcheon-gu, when a chemical agent weighing 58 kg and with a capacity of 87 liters, emitting carbon dioxide, leaked. A total of 21 casualties occurred, including 4 deaths.
