[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Domestic semiconductor companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix submitted semiconductor supply chain survey data requested by the U.S. government on the 8th (local time). It is known that these companies responded to the submission request excluding sensitive information such as customer data.
Samsung Electronics stated on the day, "We submitted semiconductor supply chain data in accordance with the U.S. Department of Commerce guidelines," adding, "Customer-related information cannot be disclosed due to contractual obligations, so it was excluded after consultation with the Department of Commerce." SK Hynix also confirmed, "We submitted the data considering the contractual relationship with our customers."
Earlier, the Biden administration held a video conference with global semiconductor companies at the end of September amid the global semiconductor shortage and requested sensitive information related to companies' inventory, orders, and sales within 45 days. The deadline is 2 p.m. Korean time on the 9th. The survey items announced by the Department of Commerce consist of a total of 26 questions.

Previously, the Department of Commerce relaxed some guidelines by accepting requests from companies to submit data categorized by industry?such as automotive, mobile phone, and computer use?instead of sensitive information like customer names that semiconductor companies are reluctant to disclose. Accordingly, it is reported that domestic companies also responded to the survey excluding information that is difficult to disclose.
