Lotte Chemical Replaces Piping Insulation with Eco-Friendly Materials at Daesan Plant
Lotte Chemical Daesan Plant Replaced Pipe Insulation with Eco-Friendly Materials
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Lotte Chemical announced on the 8th that it has replaced the insulation material installed at its Daesan plant with an eco-friendly material.
The newly replaced insulation material is an aerogel called Oryza Aerogel, which reduces heat loss by about 40% compared to the existing product (perlite). The existing product had to be replaced frequently, but the new insulation material can be used semi-permanently. Petrochemical plants need to maintain pipes at a certain temperature, making such insulation materials essential.

The company also decided to recycle the waste perlite material being replaced. The new insulation material does not produce dust during dismantling, improving the working environment for employees. Previously, Lotte Chemical conducted detailed design work for five months with Bierenberg Korea and began pilot application at the Daesan SM (Styrene Monomer) plant last month. Hwang Jin-gu, head of Lotte Chemical's Basic Materials Business, said, "By replacing the insulation material, we will contribute to responding to the climate crisis and achieving carbon neutrality."
