Rain Begins in the West Sea, Expands Nationwide Including Seoul Metropolitan and Chungcheong Areas
Temporary Lull During Day, Then Drops Further in Afternoon Due to Northern Pressure Trough
Daytime Temperature Drops Sharply as Cold Air Arrives, 3-8°C Lower Than Previous Day
Nationwide Rainfall of 10-40mm, 1cm of Rain or Snow in Gangwon Mountain Areas
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] On Monday morning, the 8th, short and heavy rain will fall in various parts of the country, including the metropolitan area and inland Chungcheong. Strong winds will blow across the country, and after the rain stops, cold air will descend, causing daytime temperatures and the morning temperatures on the 9th to drop significantly.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the sky will be mostly cloudy nationwide on this day, and rain that began falling over the West Sea from 5 a.m. will expand to the metropolitan area, inland Chungcheong, Jeolla region, Gangwon region, and Gyeongsang region. As cold air strongly descends behind the pressure trough, heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning will fall at a rate of about 10 to 30 mm per hour in a short time.
The expected precipitation on the 8th is 10 to 40 mm nationwide, with 60 mm or more near the mountainous areas of Jeju Island and Jirisan. As temperatures drop sharply, rain will change to snow in the mountainous areas of Gangwon, accumulating about 1 cm of snow in some places.
The rain will temporarily ease during the day but will resume again late in the afternoon. After moving out of the influence of the pressure trough advancing eastward over the West Sea, rain will continue in the metropolitan area, inland Gangwon, and mountainous areas due to another pressure trough passing to the north, with rain returning to northern Chungcheong and eastern Jeonbuk between 3 and 6 p.m.
It will get colder from daytime as the rain stops. Due to the influence of cold air moving southward from the northwest, temperatures will drop sharply. Daytime temperatures are forecast to be 10 to 19 degrees Celsius, 3 to 8 degrees lower than the previous day, and morning temperatures on the 9th will be 0 to 9 degrees Celsius, about 5 to 10 degrees lower.
The Korea Meteorological Administration advised, "Please pay special attention to health management due to immune system weakening caused by sudden temperature changes, and elderly or vulnerable people sensitive to cold should be careful with their health and avoid outdoor activities as much as possible." They also urged, "Outdoor workers such as those at screening clinics should be especially cautious when using heating devices to prevent fires, and since rain or snow in mountainous areas may freeze and make roads slippery, extra caution is needed for traffic safety."
On this day, strong wind warnings were issued for the metropolitan area, Gangwon Province, Chungcheong region, western Jeolla region, and the southern coast of Jeonnam. Very strong winds of 10 to 16 m/s are blowing along the coasts nationwide, central inland areas, western inland Jeolla, and northern inland Gyeongbuk, with the possibility of expanding strong wind warnings.
The Korea Meteorological Administration stated, "Damage to outdoor facilities such as screening clinics, construction sites, and vinyl greenhouses caused by strong winds is a concern, so thorough inspection and management of facilities are necessary. Secondary damage from falling objects such as signs is also a concern, so pedestrians and traffic safety must be carefully observed."
Storm warnings have been issued for most seas, with waves rising very high at 2 to 5 meters. Waves will rise above 5 meters from daytime in the offshore areas of the West Sea, central East Sea, northern offshore area of the southern East Sea, and southern offshore area of Jeju Island.

As the pressure trough passes, wind directions will shift from southerly to westerly in the South Sea in the morning and in the East Sea in the afternoon, with strong gusts and thunder and lightning in some areas, so caution is required for maritime safety accidents.
