'120 Dasan Call Center' Wins Seoul Traffic Culture Award Grand Prize... "Frontline Traffic Complaint Handling"
Four Groups and Two Individuals Selected as Recipients of Seoul City Traffic Culture Awards
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 7th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it has selected the ‘Seoul Metropolitan 120 Dasan Call Foundation’ as the grand prize winner of the 2021 Seoul Metropolitan Traffic Culture Awards.
The ‘Seoul Metropolitan Traffic Culture Awards,’ which selects and honors citizens or organizations that have contributed to the safety of Seoul’s urban transportation and the development of traffic culture, began in 1999 and is now in its 23rd year.
This year’s grand prize winner, the ‘Seoul Metropolitan 120 Dasan Call Foundation,’ serves as the frontline comprehensive civil complaint center for Seoul, receiving traffic inconvenience complaints and actively contributing to resolving citizen inconveniences through specialized traffic-related counseling. Among on-site civil complaints in Seoul, traffic-related complaints account for 72.0%, representing the majority (as of the end of June 2020). The 120 Dasan Call Foundation responds to various complaints including traffic inquiries, operational inconveniences, lost items, and illegal parking reports.
The Excellence Awards were given to the ‘Nowon Police Station Green Mothers’ Association’ and ‘Mr. Ha Eun-yong of the Guro Model Drivers Association.’ Since its establishment in 2006, the Nowon Police Station Green Mothers’ Association has consistently conducted child traffic safety volunteer work, contributing to the establishment of advanced traffic order. In particular, they actively participated in various local events such as district mayor meetings and played a key role as a bridge for the development of local traffic culture by drafting and distributing the ‘Joint Letter from the Seoul Nowon Police Chief and the Northern Education Support Office Superintendent.’
Mr. Ha Eun-yong (67), president of the Guro Model Drivers Association, has conducted traffic assistance duties every weekday morning and actively participated in local traffic campaigns such as safe school route campaigns and intersection queue-jumping prevention campaigns. Mr. Ha also contributed to student transportation support on the annual college entrance exam day and has performed over 1,000 hours of volunteer work for people with disabilities, contributing to the local community in many ways.
This year’s Seoul Metropolitan Traffic Culture Awards candidates were recommended by citizens, civic groups, and autonomous districts from June 28 to August 18. After verifying the merits, the final decision was made through deliberation by the merit review committee composed of Seoul city council members, previous year’s awardees, traffic experts, and civic group activists.
Due to COVID-19 prevention measures, this year’s Seoul Metropolitan Traffic Culture Awards ceremony will not be held separately; instead, plaques will be delivered individually to the awardees.
