Sarangjeil Church 5th Eviction Attempt... Church Side "We Will Resist"
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] The fifth eviction enforcement against Sarang Jeil Church in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, which has been in conflict with the redevelopment association over demolition issues, began on the afternoon of the 5th.
Starting around 2 p.m. that day, hundreds of enforcement personnel from the Seoul Northern District Court attempted a forced execution on the church facilities.
Hundreds of believers gathered upon hearing the enforcement news and are inside the church to prevent the forced execution.
The church’s lawyer is meeting with the officials responsible for the enforcement in front of the church, blocking their entry into the church interior.
A church official said, "The believers will unite to block the forced execution," adding, "There are no Molotov cocktails or dangerous materials."
Sarang Jeil Church lost both the first trial and the appeal in the building delivery lawsuit filed last month by the Jangwi 10 District Housing Redevelopment Maintenance Project Association.
The church recently filed an objection to the forced eviction lawsuit’s compulsory mediation proposal presented by the Seoul High Court. Earlier in August, they rejected the court’s mediation proposal of compensation amounting to approximately 15 billion won.
Located in the heart of Jangwi 10 District in Seongbuk-gu, Sarang Jeil Church has opposed redevelopment due to issues such as compensation. The association, as the real estate rights holder, attempted forced execution three times last year but failed each time due to clashes with the believers.

The fourth eviction enforcement scheduled for April was canceled on the day by the court, fearing damage from conflicts between enforcement personnel and the many believers protesting inside the church.
