Sancheong Herbal Medicine Industry Special Zone Selected as the Only Excellent Regional Special Zone in Gyeongnam
Excellent Evaluation for Jirisan Herbal Product Development and Patent Application
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The Oriental Herbal Medicine Industry Special Zone in Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam, has been selected as an excellent regional special zone in the government performance evaluation. It was the only one among the 15 special zones in the Gyeongnam area to be named an excellent regional special zone.
According to the Ministry of SMEs and Startups on the 5th, as a result of last year's performance evaluation of 195 special zones nationwide, nine places including the Sancheong Oriental Herbal Medicine Industry Special Zone were selected as the '2021 Excellent Regional Special Zones.' The Sancheong Herbal Medicine Special Zone was awarded an encouragement prize, receiving the Minister of SMEs and Startups Award and a reward of 50 million won.
The Sancheong Herbal Medicine Special Zone was recognized for its achievements last year, including product development using Jirisan herbs, patent applications, online marketing, and the successful online hosting of the Sancheong Oriental Herbal Medicine Festival.
The Sancheong Herbal Medicine Special Zone has grown since 2005, centered around Maechon-ri, Geumseo-myeon. It is promoting six specialized projects: Oriental Herbal Medicine Valley, Oriental Medical Welfare Center, Oriental Herbal Medicine Cultivation Experience Center, Herbal Medicine Industry Support Project, Herbal Medicine Cultivation Research Complex, and Traditional Oriental Medical Recreation Tourism Site.
Sancheong-gun is changing its special zone plan to suit the changing business environment and is promoting projects encompassing tourism, medical care, and the herbal medicine industry. As a result of these continuous efforts, it was selected as excellent in 2009, encouragement in 2012, grand prize (best) in 2013, and excellent regional special zone in 2018.
