US COVID-19 Deaths Near 750,000... Exceed Alaska's Population
After WWI, US Military Deaths Surpassed
Many Still Refuse Vaccination... Deaths Expected to Rise Further
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] The number of COVID-19 deaths in the United States is approaching 750,000, surpassing the population of Alaska. This figure exceeds the total number of major U.S. military casualties from World War I onward, fueling growing fear. Despite this, many people still refuse vaccination, raising concerns that the death toll will continue to rise.
According to COVID-19 data from Johns Hopkins University as of the 3rd (local time), the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the U.S. reached 748,518, the highest in the world. This is significantly higher than the second-ranked Brazil (608,071) and India (459,191).
According to The Washington Post (WP), this number surpasses the population of Alaska, which was 733,391 based on the 2020 U.S. Census. It also greatly exceeds the populations of Washington D.C. (689,545), Vermont (643,077), and Wyoming (576,851). WP reports that this figure already exceeds the combined number of U.S. military deaths in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.
Despite the high number of COVID-19 deaths, many people still refuse vaccination, and WP reports that vaccination has even caused conflicts within families and communities. Politically motivated vaccine refusal in groups remains common in the U.S.

According to WP, only 51% of residents in Tuscola County, Michigan, have received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine. This area is politically conservative with strong anti-government sentiments. WP also reports that many areas in the southeastern U.S. still have high rates of vaccine refusal, prompting U.S. health authorities to warn that the death toll is likely to rise significantly in the future.
