Gwangju Seo-gu Nongsung 2-dong Leads Efforts to Create a Beautiful Community

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] The Administrative Welfare Center of Nongsung 2-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Director Heo Soon-seok) is taking the lead in creating a beautiful community where people live together through continuous volunteer activities by the Shoulder-to-Shoulder Discovery Group, the Nongsung 2-dong Community Security Council, and the Nongsung Police Station.

According to Nongsung 2-dong, Seo-gu, on the 4th, this activity selected 20 single elderly households mostly living in old houses and replaced the existing power strips with energy-saving multi-tap power strips sponsored by Jeongdo Comprehensive Hardware Store, a good store in the district.

It also aimed to prevent fire risks caused by electricity in vulnerable households and to achieve electricity bill savings.

To establish a safety and care system for local residents, Police Chief Seol Sang-wook of Nongsung Police Station donated 20 fire extinguishers (worth about 400,000 KRW) to prevent fires in vulnerable groups.

The provided throwable fire extinguishers are spray-type extinguishers that are smaller and lighter than conventional powder-type extinguishers, making them easy to use for the elderly and women, allowing for quick and stable fire suppression at the early stage of a fire.

Do Deok-young, chairman of the Community Security Council, said, “I would like to express my gratitude to the council members and local residents who continuously volunteer and donate for neighbors in need,” and added, “I hope that supporting throwable fire extinguishers, which are easy to use for vulnerable groups, will help prevent large fires and create a safe community.”

Heo Soon-seok, director of Nongsung 2-dong, said, “Through the small volunteer activities of the Shoulder-to-Shoulder Discovery Group, the living conditions of elderly people in poor environments are gradually improving, and I hope this will also help overcome climate change and the energy crisis,” and added, “Based on this activity, we will discuss and consider ways to expand it to the local community.”
