Pope: "Climate Change Wounds the Globe... We Must Unite Like After World War II"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Pope Francis emphasized that in order to respond to the crisis caused by climate change, the international solidarity achieved after World War II and forward-looking actions must be prioritized.
According to the Vatican website on the 3rd, the Pope stated in a message sent to the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) on the 2nd (local time), "The wounds humanity has suffered due to COVID-19 and climate change are comparable to conflicts occurring around the globe."
The Pope said, "Many brothers and sisters are suffering from the climate crisis. Especially, the lives of the most vulnerable are experiencing even more destructive impacts," and expressed concern that "in the near future, environmental migrants will outnumber refugees caused by war and conflict."
