Jangseong-gun, Lifelong Education Promotion Project 'Popular'

[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jo Hangyu] The lifelong learning project promoted by Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do, is gaining momentum with enthusiastic participation from local residents.

According to the county on the 3rd, this project is a literacy education program for residents who have not received Korean language education, and it was selected for the Ministry of Education's adult literacy education public contest this year, establishing 19 Korean language classrooms.

Currently, about 200 local residents are participating in the education, and the results of the first self-initiated public contest project in the region are also drawing attention.

The county succeeded in discovering 4 program implementing institutions and 5 clubs through the public contest for the ‘Excellent Lifelong Learning Program and Club Support Project.’

The excellent lifelong learning programs discovered by the county are ▲ Wise Woodworking DIY Carving Life (Youth Training Center) ▲ Busy Activities for Cognitive Ability Improvement (Senior Welfare Center) ▲ Theater Play: The Flower Breeze of Middle-aged and Older Adults (Our Neighborhood Yellow Flower) ▲ Character Instructor Certification Class (Character Culture Promotion Institute).

The excellent clubs selected are ▲ Literacy Education Research Association ▲ Chukryeongsan Cypress Forest Nordic Walking ▲ Photo Forest Literature ▲ Heungchon Woodcraft Workshop ▲ Brainy Women’s Emotion Cross.

Meanwhile, recently, in the ‘City and County Lifelong Education Activation Public Contest Project’ hosted by Jeollanam-do, ▲ Learning Happiness Village School Operation (Jinwon Seondong and Seokjeon Village) ▲ Tea Ceremony Instructor and Etiquette Guidance Course (Dongseo Tea Culture Research Institute) ▲ Baking and Pastry Education (Comprehensive Welfare Center for the Disabled) were also selected.

The background enabling the county to actively promote lifelong education projects like this is the ‘Lifelong Education Council.’

Last year, the county enacted the ‘Jangseong-gun Lifelong Education Promotion Ordinance’ to establish the basis for the development, fostering, and support of lifelong education programs and launched the council.

The council serves as a central axis encompassing lifelong learning institutions in the region and greatly contributes to the activation of lifelong education in the county.

The county is also preparing to hold the final report meeting for the research project on the ‘Mid- to Long-term Development Plan for Lifelong Education,’ which aims to create a lifelong learning city reflecting regional characteristics.

County Governor Yoo Doo-seok said, “The ultimate goal of lifelong education is to create conditions where anyone can receive the education they want anytime and anywhere,” adding, “We will build the foundation for the development of a united ‘New Jangseong’ through the development of various lifelong learning programs that strengthen the capabilities of county residents.”
