[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The disciples of Gisan Park Heon-bong (1906?1977), who led the revival of traditional Korean music such as folk music that had nearly disappeared under Japanese colonial rule, are visiting Sancheong, Gyeongnam.
On the 3rd, Gyeongnam Sancheong County and the Gisan Gugak Festival Committee announced that they will hold the "Gyeongnam Illuminated Figures Project - Gisan Exhibition" at 5 p.m. on the 7th at the Sancheong County Culture and Arts Center.
The performance is organized mainly by the disciples of Gisan Park Heon-bong, who made great achievements in gugak education, including establishing a gugak arts school. The performance will feature refined gugak performances by intangible cultural asset holders, gugak musicians, and orchestras, including the teacher’s disciples.
The performance begins with "Ring the Taepyeonggo" on the daegokak, followed by "Gisan Changa" and "Daebaramsori." Also performed are the concerto for gayageum byeongchang "Sarangga," "Baettwiro-ra," "Yaksun," and "Shin Kwae-dong style geomungo sanjo and byeongchang."
In addition, the concert includes "Shin Modeum," a concerto for samulnori and gugak orchestra, as well as "Bangapseumnida," "Mirippong," "Uyeonhi," "Gil," "Sarang-ui Babo," and "Yesa." This performance is hosted and organized by the Gisan Gugak Festival Committee and supported by Gyeongnam Province, Sancheong County, and the National Traditional Arts Middle and High School Alumni Association.
In 2013, Sancheong County built the Gisan Gugak Hall in Namsa Yedamchon, the hometown of Park Heon-bong, to honor his spirit and continue his legacy. Since 2019, the "Saturday Regular Gugak Performance - Gisan Story with Commentary Healing Music Healing Concert" has been held every Saturday, featuring gugak concerts.
In the fall of 2020, a large drum called "Taepyeonggo," created and installed at the Gisan Gugak Hall to pray for overcoming COVID-19, peace, and wish fulfillment, was produced. About ten years before his passing, in 1966, Gisan completed writing this book and published a massive volume of over 670 pages.
