Seogwipo Coast Guard Conducts Special Inspection to Prevent Safety Accidents on Passenger and Ferry Vessels
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Seogwipo Maritime Police Station (Chief Hwang Junhyun) announced on the 3rd that it will conduct a special inspection throughout this month to prevent safety accidents such as fires on multi-use vessels during the winter season, in order to protect the lives and property of the public.
This year, the number of passengers using multi-use vessels in Seogwipo area has reached approximately 2.63 million as of last month, already surpassing last year's 2.48 million passengers. With the recent implementation of With Corona, a continuous increase is expected, making the strengthening of safety management urgent.
Seogwipo Maritime Police plans to strengthen accident prevention and raise safety awareness among operators during the winter season, when concerns about fire accidents caused by the use of electric heaters and overheating of old wiring on vessels increase. They will also enhance fire prevention safety patrols centered on police substations.
The main inspection items include ▲fire-prone areas and fire extinguishing equipment management status on vessels ▲operators' and workers' understanding of safe navigation guidelines and accident response capabilities ▲criteria and procedures for navigation permission when weather warnings are issued.
A Seogwipo Maritime Police official said, “This special inspection focuses on strengthening safety awareness so that passengers using multi-use vessels can have a safe winter season,” and added, “We will continue to carry out publicity and inspection activities to prevent safety accidents.”
