Recall of 32,479 Units Including 'Benz S580 4MATIC' for Manufacturing Defects
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 4th that a total of 32,479 units of 17 vehicle models imported and sold by Mercedes-Benz Korea, Korea Motor Trading, and Giheung International were found to have manufacturing defects and will be voluntarily recalled.
Among them, 773 units of 7 models including the Benz S580 4MATIC were found to have a possibility of injury to passengers as the passenger airbag may not deploy during a collision due to an error in the airbag control device software.
For 277 units of 5 models including the Benz AMG CLA 45 S 4MATIC+, it was discovered that the exhaust sound and ride comfort adjustment switch may not operate properly due to the influence of external electromagnetic waves.
This is a non-compliance with safety standards, so the importer will first conduct a voluntary recall, and later impose fines considering the correction rate.
The affected vehicles can be repaired free of charge at official Mercedes-Benz Korea service centers starting from the 5th.
A total of 31,117 units of 4 two-wheeled models including the Yamaha GPD125A imported and sold by Korea Motor Trading were found to have auxiliary reflector performance that does not meet safety standards according to the self-certification conformity investigation by the Korea Transportation Safety Authority's Automobile Safety Research Institute.
The importer will first conduct a voluntary recall, and later impose fines considering the correction rate. These vehicles can be repaired free of charge at official Korea Motor Trading service centers starting from the 15th.
A total of 312 units of the Royal Enfield Himalayan two-wheeled model imported and sold by Giheung International were found to have a possibility of accidents due to brake malfunction caused by corrosion from insufficient corrosion resistance of the brake caliper.
Repairs can be made free of charge at the Giheung International Royal Enfield official service center starting from the 5th.

Each manufacturer will notify vehicle owners of the correction methods via mail and mobile text messages. If a vehicle owner repairs the defect at their own expense before the defect correction, they can apply for compensation for the repair costs from the manufacturer.
