Netflix Vice President to Visit Government and National Assembly
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] Dean Garfield, Vice President of Policy at Netflix, is set to visit the government and the National Assembly. This move is interpreted as a response to the so-called 'network usage fee' controversy that arose following the recent success of the Netflix original series "Ojingeo Game" (Squid Game).
According to the Korea Communications Commission on the 2nd, Vice President Garfield had a meeting with Vice Chairman Kim Hyun of the KCC starting at 5 PM that day. The meeting was arranged at Netflix's request. The KCC explained that they discussed current issues in the broadcasting and telecommunications sector, including 'media content investment,' 'creating a fair competitive environment,' and 'user protection.'
During the meeting, Vice Chairman Kim reportedly emphasized media content win-win cooperation, referencing President Moon Jae-in's statement that "global platforms need to fulfill responsibilities commensurate with their scale."
