President Moon meets British Crown Prince couple at COP... "Highly appreciates Korea's NDC enhancement"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in, who is visiting the UK to attend the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26), met with various world leaders on the 1st (local time) during the opening ceremony and the host country’s programs to discuss climate and environmental issues.
At the evening reception for heads of state held at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, hosted by UK Prime Minister Johnson, President Moon exchanged views on climate and environmental topics with Prince William, the Prince of Wales, and his wife.
Prince William highly praised South Korea’s enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) for greenhouse gas reduction, and President Moon expressed gratitude for the UK’s leadership.
President Laurentino Cortizo of Panama approached President Moon at the COP26 summit lounge, expressing an invitation and saying, "Panama maintains an excellent partnership with South Korea," while hoping for cooperation with Korean companies operating locally. President Moon responded, "I look forward to cooperation in related fields."
Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jan?a also greeted President Moon warmly at the summit lounge, requested a visit to Slovenia, and said, "Thank you for South Korea’s contribution to addressing climate change." President Moon replied, "Thank you for the invitation, and let’s continue discussions." President Carlos Alvarado Quesada of Costa Rica said, "I look forward to visiting Korea," adding, "I respect Korea and like Kimchi." President Moon responded, "We also look forward to your visit, and if you like Kimchi, you know Korea well."
President Moon mentioned to Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, who sat next to him at the opening ceremony, that "South Korea imports LNG from Qatar and has secured many shipbuilding orders for LNG vessels." Emir Tamim said, "LNG is a future energy resource," and extended an invitation.

Additionally, President Moon thanked Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, whom he met at the opening ceremony, for the mutual donation of vaccines and medical devices in September, which helped increase vaccination rates. President Iohannis expressed his pleasure that it was helpful. Swiss President Guy Parmelin conveyed to President Moon his expectation for economic cooperation, especially through a free trade agreement (FTA) between the two countries.
