Gyeongbuk Province-Gumi City-NIS Sign MOU to Protect Defense Industry Technology
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Gyeongbuk Province announced on the 2nd that it has signed a business agreement with the National Intelligence Service and Gumi City to strengthen the protection of defense industry technology.
This agreement was prepared to actively respond to the recent increase in domestic defense industry technology leaks and hacking attacks on companies possessing core technologies.
According to the agreement, the three organizations will form an industry-academia-research-government consultative body to jointly cooperate in discovering companies with excellent technologies entering the defense industry, promoting technology protection consulting, establishing a response system against technology leaks, and verifying overseas investment fraud.
The signing ceremony was attended by defense-related organizations including the Gumi Defense Venture Center, as well as local defense companies such as LIG Nex1, Hanwha Systems, Hanwha, and Seyoung Information & Communication.
The defense industry has achieved a technological level ranked 9th in the world and has grown dramatically over the past decade, with export volume increasing more than tenfold and the number of export destination countries more than doubling.
However, as methods of infringing defense industry technology become increasingly intelligent and sophisticated, the need to protect domestically developed defense industry technology is steadily rising.
Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, said, “This business agreement will be highly meaningful in raising security awareness not only among local defense companies that absolutely need technology protection but also among regional businesses,” adding, “It will serve as an opportunity for the defense industry to grow into a core industry of the region.”
