Hyundai Motor Technology Leaders Gather for 'HMG Developer Conference' on the 10th
Star-Level Tech Leaders Including Albert Biermann, Song Changhyun, and President Ji Youngjo All Assembled
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 2nd that it will hold the '2021 HMG Developer Conference' from the 10th to the 11th.
This conference, held online, is a large-scale technology communication festival prepared by Hyundai Motor Group to share vivid research and development know-how with internal and external developers.
The event will be held under the theme of ‘Journey for Smart Mobility Solution’.
Albert Biermann, President of Hyundai Motor R&D Division, will deliver the opening speech to introduce the current status and direction of Hyundai Motor Group’s research and technology development.
President Biermann plans to emphasize that “Hyundai Motor Group is accelerating the development of SDV (Software Defined Vehicle) to provide a hyper-connected integrated platform between users and vehicles encompassing mobility, AI (artificial intelligence), connected services, and many excellent developers are working together on this journey.”
Executive Vice President Kyo-Woong Chu, in charge of electronics and keynote speaker, will introduce innovative technologies such as the electric vehicle dedicated platform E-GMP, hydrogen fuel cells, high-performance N brand, connected cars, and robotics, and will present how these technologies can advance our lives.
Executive Vice President Chu developed Android Auto installed in Hyundai and Kia products in collaboration with Google, and currently oversees the development of electronic technologies including infotainment, connected cars, and controllers.
Following him, Director Woongjun Jang, Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) of Motional, a joint venture between the US autonomous driving specialist Aptiv and Hyundai Motor, will introduce the current status and development direction of autonomous driving software technology.
Dr. Dongjin Hyun, Director of Robotics Lab, who has overseen the development of wearable robots VEX and CEX, and service robot DAL-e, will also present, revealing the necessity of robotics technology and an approximate blueprint of major robot technologies currently under development.
Keynote presentation by President Changhyun Song, an IT and software expert, is also scheduled. Currently head of Hyundai Motor and Kia’s TaaS division, President Song is a global top expert with experience in the latest technology development at global IT companies such as Apple and Microsoft.
He led the establishment of Naver Labs after serving as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Naver, and is the mastermind behind Naver DEVIEW, a representative successful case of domestic developer conferences, which he personally planned and established.
Through his keynote speech at this conference, President Song will present an overall vision on how Hyundai Motor Group will concretize ‘TaaS (Transportation as a Service)’, whose importance is emerging in the smart mobility field.
In addition to presentations by key Hyundai Motor Group personnel, special lectures by scholars from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are also prepared for this conference.
Professor Daniela L. Rus, director of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (MIT CSAIL) and advisory professor in Hyundai Motor Group’s AI field, will give a special lecture on the current technology of robotaxis, and Professor Han Song from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, who is conducting joint AI industry-academic research on autonomous driving, will deliver a special lecture on machine learning and deep learning.

Meanwhile, in this session, more than 70 excellent developers selected through prior public recruitment and screening from Hyundai Motor Group’s four companies (Hyundai Motor, Kia, Hyundai Mobis, Hyundai AutoEver) and five promising startups (MOBINN, Mesh Korea, Supermove, Mobiltech, MayAI) will present the latest technologies on a total of about 50 topics covering mobility and software.
