Gangbuk-gu Ui-dong Family Camping Site Illuminated with LED Lights and Music Flower Garden Fire
[Seoul District News] Flower Garden Made of LED Lights with 5,000 Blooms Installed... Sweet Music Also Playing... Dongjak-gu Sadang4-dong History and Culture Trail Construction Officially Begins
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Gyeom-su) has brightly lit the musical flower garden made of LED (light-emitting diode) lights at the Ui-dong Family Camping Site.
The LED flower garden is a space designed in the shape of hydrangeas using special lighting. Approximately 5,000 flowers have been arranged across eight zones including the camping site entrance and walking trails. The flower-shaped bulbs change colors in vibrant hues such as red and green. The lights turn on from sunset until 10 p.m.
The musical flower garden features a digital brightness control function (DMX) that automatically controls sound and color. The lights turn on at sunset and melodies play for a set period. The light colors change brilliantly in sync with pre-selected music. The lighting time and volume can be adjusted so as not to disturb campers’ sleep.
Opened in March, the Ui-dong Family Camping Site has become a symbolic local attraction with over 12,000 paid visitors. The online reservation system fills up on the day it opens due to high demand. Visitors who complete the ‘You, Me, and Us Stamp Healing Tour’ can receive a 30-50% discount on camping fees. However, to receive the discount, visitors must visit the camping office and get a stamp on a pre-issued form. The walking trail is an exploration path that tours local historical and cultural resources and takes about two hours to complete.
Park Gyeom-su, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, “We hope many people visit the Ui-dong Family Camping Site, which is adorned with the spectacle of hydrangea lights,” adding, “We expect the family camping site located at the foot of Bukhansan to become a representative nighttime scenic spot in the Seoul area.”
Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) is promoting the creation of a ‘History and Culture Trail’ by extending the hiking trail at Ggachisan Park to the ‘Lee Jeong-yeong Burial Site,’ a Seoul-designated cultural heritage site, as part of the Sadang 4-dong urban regeneration pilot project.
Sadang 4-dong was selected as a New Deal project site by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in 2019. The district is investing a total of 26 billion KRW by 2023 to implement various detailed projects under the vision of ‘Three Generations, 100 Years! A Smart Village with Stories of People Living Together.’
This History and Culture Trail project involves connecting the Ggachisan Park hiking trail to the outer area of the Lee Jeong-yeong Burial Site. The extension section will be approximately 1.5 to 2 meters wide and 250 meters long, with installations including wooden decks, fences, and traditional-style lighting.
Until now, the Lee Jeong-yeong Burial Site, which is private property, has remained closed, causing partial disruption of the hiking trail for local residents. Once connected, the hiking trail will extend from the existing 520 meters to 770 meters.
The district plans to begin the project in earnest this month by signing an agreement with the clan (宗中) that owns the burial site to open the cultural heritage. After detailed design work, completion is targeted for the second half of next year.
Additionally, the History and Culture Trail will be connected to the new Hanok cafe, scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2023, creating a continuous hiking route from Ggachisan Park → Lee Jeong-yeong Burial Site → New Hanok Cafe in Sadang 4-dong.
For more details about the project, inquiries can be made to the district office’s Strategic Projects Division. Kim Jong-woo, head of the Strategic Projects Division, said, “We will do our best to create the History and Culture Trail by opening the previously closed cultural heritage site to provide residents with opportunities to enjoy cultural assets and establish a space for leisure.”
