Muan County Council Reflects on 30 Years of History and Strengthens Commitment to Reform

[Muan＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] The Jeonnam Muan County Council (Chairman Kim Dae-hyun) held the ‘30th Anniversary Ceremony of the Opening of Muan County Council’ on the 29th of last month at the county council plenary session hall.

This ceremony was prepared to look back on the footsteps of the Muan County Council over the past 30 years and to pledge a new leap forward in the era of Local Autonomy Decentralization 2.0.

According to the county on the 1st, about 50 people attended the ceremony, including Chairman Kim Dae-hyun, current and former council members, the Muan County Governor, provincial council members, the Muan Education Superintendent, and heads of social organizations. The event proceeded in the order of watching a commemorative video, awarding plaques of merit, commemorative and congratulatory speeches, and a plaque unveiling ceremony.

The ceremony began with a report on the council’s history and legislative activities by Kim Kyung-hyun, chairman of the Council Operation Planning Committee, followed by the viewing of a commemorative video produced to mark the 30th anniversary of the county council’s opening.

In the video, the county council vividly introduced the 30-year history of legislative activities actively responding to local issues, from the opening of the Muan County Council in 1991, efforts and achievements for the relocation of the provincial office, construction of Muan International Airport, opposition to the integration of the Muan Peninsula, opposition to the relocation of Gwangju military airport, up to the current 8th council.

At the plaque of merit awarding ceremony that followed, former council members Kim Deuk-jung, who served as the 1st term chairman, and Yang Seung-il, who served as the 3rd term chairman, received plaques of merit from Chairman Kim Dae-hyun for their contributions to the development of legislative affairs.

In his commemorative speech, Chairman Kim Dae-hyun said, “The reason the Muan County Council was able to take root and develop over the past 30 years was thanks to the deep interest and love of the county residents,” and pledged, “I will deeply engrave the meaning of the revival of local autonomy achieved through relentless challenges and open the era of Local Autonomy Decentralization 2.0 together with the county residents.”
