Gwangju Seo-gu '1st Ontact Resident Autonomy Contest' Successfully Concluded
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Dae-seok) successfully concluded the '1st Ontact Resident Autonomy Contest' held on the 29th of last month at the Seo-gu Cultural Center, with the participation of about 90 people including resident autonomy committee members from each neighborhood.
According to Seo-gu on the 1st, this contest was attempted for the first time this year to create a system for producing video materials that capture resident autonomy activities throughout the year by each neighborhood, sharing various cases, and systematically accumulating and managing village activity data in advance.
The contest received video submissions of up to 10 minutes showcasing excellent autonomy activities from 18 neighborhood resident autonomy (committee) associations over three weeks starting September 27, with all 18 neighborhoods participating enthusiastically.
For the second round of on-site judging, 66 general audience members composed of resident autonomy committee members from the 18 neighborhoods evaluated 10 videos that passed the first expert screening. Seo Dae-seok, Seo-gu Mayor, and Kim Tae-young, Chairperson of the Seo-gu Council, participated as special judges, adding significance to the event.
The final ranking was determined by combining 50% of the scores from the first expert screening and 50% from the second general audience evaluation. After an intense 120-minute competition, the grand prize, along with a prize money of 3 million KRW, was awarded to the Pungam-dong Resident Autonomy Association.
The Pungam-dong Resident Autonomy Association also celebrated a double honor by being selected as the top award-winning organization in the resident autonomy category at the 20th National Resident Autonomy Expo announced that day.
The excellence award went to the Chipyeong-dong Resident Autonomy Association, the merit awards were given to the Seochang-dong Resident Autonomy Committee and Geumho 1-dong Resident Autonomy Association, and encouragement awards were presented to the Nongseong 1-dong, Gwangcheon-dong, Sangmu 1-dong, Hwajeong 3-dong, Hwajeong 4-dong, and Geumho 2-dong resident autonomy (committee) associations respectively.
Seo Dae-seok, Seo-gu Mayor, said, “Watching the dedicated efforts of Seo-gu residents carried out throughout the villages over the past year with my own eyes, I felt a flood of emotions while watching the videos. It was a day that reminded me once again that true resident autonomy is realized when residents from various social strata think about their villages, actively participate, and seek change.”
