Since 2013, a total of 58 million KRW worth of braille books produced and delivered 11 times
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] Lotte Members announced on the 1st that through the Point Publisher Campaign, which produces and donates braille books for visually impaired children using donation points from L.POINT members, they have donated a cumulative total of about 22,000 braille books (worth 58 million KRW).
On the 29th of last month, Lotte Members held the '2021 Point Publisher Campaign Book Delivery Ceremony' virtually and delivered 1,280 braille books produced this year to the National Seoul School for the Blind and the Korea Braille Library. The ceremony was attended by Jeon Hyung-sik, CEO of Lotte Members, Kim Eun-joo, Principal of the National Seoul School for the Blind, and Kim Dong-bok, Director of the Korea Braille Library.
This year, considering that visually impaired students have been spending more time at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they focused on producing the Mind Growth Picture Book series and braille label fairy tales. The delivered books are scheduled to be distributed to a total of 570 visually impaired students’ households, including 14 special schools for the visually impaired and braille libraries nationwide.
Kim Eun-joo, Principal of the National Seoul School for the Blind, expressed gratitude, saying, "Students who once hesitantly read the braille books first created by Lotte Members in 2013 have now become university students who fluently read their major textbooks. I hope that braille books, which open a path of hope in the lives of visually impaired students and serve as a gateway to envisioning their futures, will continue to be produced."
