Namwon-si Operates 'Autumn Forest Fire Prevention Task Force'

The city has deployed one wildfire firefighting helicopter within the jurisdiction and has made thorough preparations to ensure the normal operation of wildfire firefighting equipment such as 9 unmanned wildfire surveillance cameras and 3 wildfire firefighting vehicles. During the period, it will also operate a permanent situation room in connection with 20 eup, myeon, and dong districts.

This autumn, the risk of fire is increasing due to the burning of leftover harvest residues during the harvest season and the increase in hikers due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, so thorough wildfire prevention measures will be taken.

In particular, to establish an early response system for autumn wildfire firefighting, 28 wildfire specialized prevention and firefighting personnel were recently selected early and deployed to carry out wildfire prevention and guidance activities such as pre-removal of wildfire hazardous materials.

From next month 1st, an additional 93 mountain surveillance personnel and mobile patrol members will be deployed to thoroughly inspect and prevent wildfires throughout the entire jurisdiction without any vulnerable areas.

The head of the Forest and Greenery Division said, "We will minimize wildfire damage through all-out efforts to prevent autumn wildfires and realize a 'safe Namwon without wildfire damage.' Since prevention is the most important thing in wildfires, we ask residents for active cooperation in wildfire prevention, such as refraining from various burnings near forest areas and carrying inflammable materials when entering the mountains."
