Gyeonggi Office of Education Suspends Principal Who Installed Hidden Camera in Female Teacher's Restroom... Audit Launched
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The principal of a school in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province, was suspended from duty for installing an illegal camera in the female teachers' restroom.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education announced on the 29th that it immediately suspended the involved party from duty and launched an audit.
Earlier, an employee identified as A at the school discovered the illegal camera installed in the female teachers' restroom and reported it to the police on the 28th. Police investigation confirmed that the principal had installed the camera.
The Gyeonggi Office of Education suspended the principal from duty and placed the victim on sick leave.
On the morning of the 29th, Superintendent Lee Jae-jung held an emergency countermeasure meeting and instructed the education office and education support office to immediately start investigations and to coordinate joint responses from relevant departments.
The Gyeonggi Office of Education plans to request disciplinary action against the subject at the disciplinary committee, reflecting the police investigation results, and to prepare follow-up measures to prevent recurrence.
The Anyang-Gwacheon Education Support Office formed an emergency response team on the 28th and prepared psychological counseling and community trust recovery support plans for the members of the school where the incident occurred.
Superintendent Lee Jae-jung expressed serious concern over the unfortunate incident involving the principal responsible for school education, stating, "I deeply acknowledge the responsibility for this unacceptable event that should never happen in schools and the education community." He promised, "We will actively support necessary measures to ensure no difficulties for students, parents, and teachers, and will take the strongest possible response and strict measures to prevent such incidents from happening again."
Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi Office of Education conducts inspections for illegal cameras installed inside schools once each in the first and second half of the year by school. Next year, it plans to outsource these inspections to external agencies to enhance detection expertise and reduce school administrative workload, budgeting 573.98 million KRW in the main budget.
