Hampyeong Yuil Food Co., Ltd. Receives Jang Young-sil International Science and Culture Award
Contribution to Promoting Public Health and Utilizing Eco-Friendly Construction Methods
[Hampyeong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Hampyeong-gun's agricultural corporation, Yuil Food Co., Ltd. (CEO Cho Soonhee), achieved the great feat of winning the '2021 Jang Yeong-sil International Science and Culture Award' with its eco-friendly powdered vinegar.
On the 28th, Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that Yuil Food Co., Ltd. received the Food Engineering Award at the '2021 Jang Yeong-sil International Science and Culture Award,' hosted by the Jang Yeong-sil Memorial Project Association for Scientific Pioneers and sponsored by the Ministry of Science and ICT, for its powdered vinegar made by pulverizing onion and garlic skins and Hwangchil using an eco-friendly method.
Yuil Food Co., Ltd. is the first company in Korea to produce and sell powdered vinegar made from wild herbs (Hwangchil, onion skins, garlic skins) through sugar-free natural fermentation, utilizing by-products such as onion and garlic skins that were previously discarded.
In particular, by converting the existing liquid vinegar product into powder form, portability and ease of consumption were improved, and it also received HACCP certification through a natural fermentation process that excludes the use of chemicals.
In this regard, Yuil Food was selected for Hampyeong-gun’s 2021 agricultural specialty product packaging design development and production support project, receiving 50% of the packaging production costs supported by the county budget.
CEO Cho Soonhee expressed her award acceptance remarks, saying, “Onion and garlic skins were simply discarded as there was no technology to convert them into vinegar, but this award gives me pride and a heavy responsibility in producing powdered vinegar.”
County Governor Lee Sang-ik said, “We are very proud that our county’s agricultural corporation won this honorable award commemorating the scientific spirit of Jang Yeong-sil,” and emphasized, “We will actively support more corporations in Hampyeong-gun to conduct food-related research and development using eco-friendly methods in the future.”
Meanwhile, the 'Jang Yeong-sil International Science and Culture Award,' established in 1999, is awarded annually to individuals or companies who have achieved innovative results, inheriting the scientific spirit and inventive technology of Jang Yeong-sil, a scientist and inventor of the Joseon Dynasty.
