Simmons Bed Takes Legal Action Against Unlawful Design Copying
Strong Response to Repeated Unauthorized Use of Company Frame Designs by Other Firms
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Simmons, a sleep specialty brand, has announced legal action against companies selling counterfeit products of its frames. This is a drastic measure in response to the increasing cases of design theft related to Simmons bed frames, which have become a trend in the industry.
On the 27th, Simmons Bed announced that it will take legal action against furniture companies that have illegally copied its frame designs, citing intellectual property infringement and violations of the Unfair Competition Prevention Act.
The bed frame design that was copied is 'Olo,' which Simmons released in the first half of this year. Featuring an exquisite arch-shaped headboard design, Olo quickly gained fame among engaged couples upon its release and became synonymous with newlywed beds. In response, Simmons has already applied for design rights for this product with the Korean Intellectual Property Office as a preemptive measure to protect its intellectual property.
This is not the first case of Simmons frame design theft. The frame 'Mona,' released last year, and the '1870 Retro Edition' frame, launched to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Simmons brand, have also been targets of imitation by other furniture companies. Furthermore, there have been cases of indiscriminate copying of Simmons' store interiors and sales staff uniforms, which are unique to the brand's identity.

A Simmons representative stated, "As the popularity of our bed frame designs has recently increased, not only have cases of other companies infringing on our intellectual property rights surged, but there have also been indiscriminate imitations of Simmons store interiors and staff uniforms, causing damage to our brand identity and confusion among customers. Simmons recognizes this as a very serious issue and will actively exercise its intellectual property rights."
