60s Man Assaults Girlfriend and Robs Her Home After She Says "Let's Break Up"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] A man in his 60s who assaulted his girlfriend after she told him she wanted to break up and stole jewelry has been arrested.
The Gwangju Nambu Police Station announced on the 26th that they have detained Mr. A (66) on charges of assault causing injury and residential burglary, and he is currently under investigation.
Mr. A is accused of breaking his girlfriend Ms. B (56)'s finger, causing injuries requiring five weeks of medical treatment, after she told him she wanted to break up in early July.
He is also charged with secretly entering Ms. B's home and stealing jewelry worth approximately 9 million won before fleeing.
Investigations revealed that Mr. A even called a locksmith and pretended to be the homeowner to gain entry.
Mr. A reportedly admitted all charges to the police, stating, "I committed the crime to compensate for the time and money I spent after my girlfriend said she wanted to break up."
Ms. B changed her stance after reconciling with Mr. A and expressed that she does not want him to be punished, but since this case does not fall under the category of offenses requiring the victim's complaint to proceed, it is expected to be forwarded to the prosecution.
The police plan to send the case to the prosecution within this week based on evidence including CCTV footage showing the residential intrusion.
