6.5 Magnitude Earthquake in Northeastern Inland Taiwan
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] On the 24th, an earthquake with a magnitude of approximately 6.5 occurred in the northeastern region of Taiwan, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration's announcement based on the analysis by the Central Weather Bureau of Taiwan.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the earthquake occurred at around 2:11 PM local time, 62 km south-southeast of Taipei, with a depth of 67 km. Local media reported that the maximum seismic intensity was about level 4 in major areas including Taipei County. There were no reported injuries.
Since the beginning of this month, a total of 16 earthquakes exceeding a certain scale (inland 5.0 or higher and marine 5.5 or higher within the region; inland 6.0 or higher and marine 7.0 or higher outside the region) have been recorded.
