Gyeongbuk Province Fully Committed to Handling Fishing Boat Capsizing Incident

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Gyeongsangbuk-do is making every effort to manage the fishing vessel capsizing accident that occurred near Dokdo on the 20th.
According to Gyeongbuk Province, the East Sea Marine Police Agency received a report at 2:24 PM on the 20th that a 72-ton trap fishing vessel registered in Hupo capsized about 91 nautical miles northeast of Dokdo.
The vessel departed from Uljin Hupo Port at 3:11 AM on the 16th and had 9 people on board, including 3 Koreans and 6 foreigners (4 Chinese and 2 Indonesians), while fishing.
Currently, patrol ships and helicopters are being deployed to search the accident area, and on the morning of the 21st, 2 survivors (Chinese) were rescued and 1 deceased was recovered.
Governor Lee, who was briefed on the accident situation, instructed, “Since the search for missing persons is urgent, support all available resources including manpower and equipment, and mobilize all government vessels such as Dokdo Peace and Gyeongbuk 202, as well as private fishing vessels, to search for the missing persons.”
He also urged, “Do your best to ensure the psychological stability of the families of the missing through immediate sharing and support of the search situation.”
Meanwhile, Gyeongbuk Province had planned to hold a resolution rally with heads of social and veterans organizations at Dokdo on the 25th, ‘Dokdo Day,’ but decided to change the venue to the Andong Independence Hall to manage the recovery of the accident fishing vessel.
