"Packaged Kimchi Over Kimjang" NS Home Shopping Focuses on Specialty Kimchi Selection
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] NS Home Shopping announced on the 22nd that it has focused on broadcasting kimchi sales, anticipating an increase in packaged kimchi sales ahead of the kimjang season.
Consumption of packaged kimchi is also increasing during the kimjang season. NS Home Shopping analyzed TV home shopping kimchi product sales data and reported that from October 1 to December 15, when kimjang preparations begin, the total order volume (number of sales) of kimchi products in 2019 increased by 68% compared to 2018, and in 2020, it increased by 5% compared to 2019.
Sales of sets including specialty kimchis such as Chonggak kimchi and Gat kimchi increased noticeably compared to napa cabbage kimchi sets. In 2018, orders for specialty kimchi products accounted for about 7% of total packaged kimchi sales during the same period, but in 2019, they accounted for 16%, and in 2020, they reached 42%.
NS Home Shopping explained that the increase in packaged kimchi sales was due to the rise of the 'Gimpo (Kimjang Poggi) tribe,' and with longer 'stay-at-home' periods, more consumers chose various specialty kimchis as side dishes in addition to basic kimchi. In preparation for the kimjang season, they focused on broadcasting not only napa cabbage kimchi but also various specialty kimchi products. On the 25th at 11:50 AM, 'Yesodam Poggi Kimchi 11kg' will be aired, and on the 26th at 7:35 PM, 'Big Mama Delicious Kimchi 11kg' will be broadcast. On the T-commerce channel NS Shop Plus, 'Damgeumchae Autumn Specialty Kimchi 3 Types' was scheduled for the 22nd at 5:00 AM, and 'Lee Jong-im Autumn Specialty Kimchi' for the 26th at 5:40 PM.
