Old Vacant House in Jungnang-gu Junghwa 2-dong Transformed into Resident Convenience Space 'Bodamine'
Operating Seasonal-Themed Space Rental Programs... Creating Resident Spaces Throughout Urban Regeneration Areas Including Village Broadcasting Station, Village Woodworking Shop, and Village Study Room
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) has transformed vacant houses in Junghwa 2-dong into community gathering spaces called 'Bodam-ine,' operating various space rental programs that have received positive responses from residents.
The property at 327-84 Junghwa-dong had long been abandoned as a vacant house. As part of an urban regeneration project, the district purchased this vacant house and reborn it as 'Bodam-ine,' a resident hub space available for use until demolition.
Bodam-ine features a meeting room equipped with laptops, a beam projector, and board games, along with a vegetable garden, a pool, a simple changing room, a barbecue grill, and a recycling station, fulfilling the area's shortage of rental facilities as a community shared-use facility.
In July and August, a pilot space rental program themed around summer family vacations was operated. It was popular, with 80 residents of Junghwa 2-dong using the space. One resident commented, "It's great to have a rental facility that didn't exist in the neighborhood, and we were able to enjoy a fun time with family while creating a camping atmosphere."
The district reflected residents' opinions and, after the pilot operation, expanded the usage hours starting in autumn. The autumn rental program, themed around camping and Halloween, runs until the end of November. Only one team can use the space per day from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Currently, the users are limited to residents of Junghwa 2-dong, with plans to expand eligibility later.
Residents wishing to use the space can apply by visiting or calling the Junghwa 2-dong Urban Regeneration Support Center (87 Jungnangyeok-ro, 2nd floor) or through the center's blog.
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, "It is meaningful that the previously vacant house is now used as a place to satisfy residents' cultural needs," adding, "We will strive to ensure that various opinions of residents are reflected in the operation of future community shared-use facilities."

In addition to Bodam-ine, a space rental facility, the district has established various resident hub facilities throughout the Junghwa 2-dong urban regeneration activation area, including a 'Village Broadcasting Station' capable of media activities such as radio broadcasting, a 'Village Woodworking Shop' for tool rental and woodworking, and a 'Village Study Room' where after-school programs are conducted for lower-grade children of Junghwa 2-dong, providing these to residents.
