[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Seohyun] Former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk criticized Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, for sharpening his stance against the prosecution, comparing it to former President Chun Doo-hwan.
On the 21st, Cho posted on his Facebook, "Yoon Seok-yeol is criticizing the ongoing prosecution investigation related to himself and his associates by using words like 'political conspiracy' and 'retaliatory investigation.' This is an act of spitting on his 'home turf,' so why is he doing this?"
He continued, "Yoon Seok-yeol became famous for saying he 'loyal to the organization.' But that organization is not just the 'prosecutorial organization,'" adding, "It only refers to the prosecution organization controlled by Yoon Seok-yeol's faction. Just as Chun Doo-hwan was loyal not to the military but to the 'Hana Group'."
He then explained the reasons, saying, "First, because he himself conducted political conspiracies and retaliatory investigations for his presidential ambitions, he believes the same behavior is happening now. Second, he is sending a message to the prosecution to 'behave accordingly' because I will become president and have the authority over prosecutor personnel appointments."
The day before, regarding Yoon's 'defense of Chun Doo-hwan' remarks, Cho posted on his Facebook, "During Hitler's rule, German heavy industry developed dramatically, and Hitler, who loved animals, enacted the world's first animal protection law in 1933, banning animal vivisection and tail docking," and criticized, "So what would happen if a German chancellor candidate said, 'Did Hitler do everything wrong? He did some good things'?"
On the 19th, Yoon attended a meeting of the People Power Party's Haeundae Gap Party Members' Council in Haeundae District, Busan, and said, "Many people say that President Chun Doo-hwan did well in politics except for the military coup and the May 18 incident. Even people from Honam say that," sparking controversy.
