Jin Sun-mi Warns "Careful Investment Needed Amid Stock Market Bubble"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The number of domestic investors directly investing in overseas stocks has exceeded 3.31 million accounts as of June this year. The settlement amount for overseas stocks surpassed 288.9 billion dollars by September, marking an all-time high.
According to data submitted by the Financial Supervisory Service to Jin Sun-mi, a member of the National Assembly's Political Affairs Committee, the number of individual investors' overseas stock accounts reached 3,310,981 by June this year, a 74% increase compared to the previous year.
The settlement amount for overseas stocks (sales amount + purchase amount) also increased significantly, reaching 288.996 billion dollars as of the end of September, which is already 45% higher than the total settlement amount of last year.
The overseas stock settlement amount increased from 32.57 billion dollars in 2018, to 40.985 billion dollars in 2019, and 198.322 billion dollars last year.
In particular, the settlement amount in the U.S. stock market showed a steep rise. It increased 766% from 30.866 billion dollars in 2019 to 267.387 billion dollars as of the end of September 2021.
