Jeonnam Fire Department Conducts Joint Drill to Prepare for Maritime Cable Car Accident
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Jeonnam Fire Department, responsible for the safety of Jeonnam residents, is making thorough preparations for maritime cable car accident response.
The Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Ma Jaeyoon) announced on the 20th that it conducted a maritime cable car rescue drill over two days starting from the 18th.
The drill was carried out at the Myeongnyang Maritime Cable Car Haenam Station, connecting Haenam and Jindo, with the Jeonnam 119 Special Rescue Team and the Central 119 Rescue Headquarters Honam Special Rescue Team jointly conducting the exercise to ensure the safety of cable car passengers during the autumn season.
The training focused on rescuing passengers in the event of a cable car accident, emphasizing ▲ mastering cable car rescue techniques using rescue equipment ▲ rapid approach methods during malfunction situations ▲ and rescue methods for those in need of help.
Moon Samho, head of the Jeonnam 119 Special Rescue Team, stated, “The Myeongnyang Maritime Cable Car is a maritime tourist attraction located at the historic site of the Uldolmok Strait, where the Battle of Myeongnyang was won. We will do our best to ensure the safety of residents through continuous training so that tourists can enjoy their visits safely.”

Meanwhile, the Myeongnyang Maritime Cable Car began operation in September and crosses the Uldolmok Strait, the site of Admiral Yi Sun-sin’s victory in the Battle of Myeongnyang. The total length is 1 km one way, and it operates with 26 cabins, each seating 10 people.
