Among the newly hired employees, those who ranked first or second in the National Skills Competition will be trained through separate education after joining to become candidates for the International Skills Olympics to be held in Shanghai, China, next year. Samsung employees have won 28 gold medals, 16 silver medals, and 8 bronze medals as national representatives at the International Skills Olympics.
Samsung recognized early on the importance of nurturing skilled workers in manufacturing and has continued related support projects. Samsung sponsors 250 million KRW annually for the National Skills Competition and has provided over 700 million KRW for overseas training expenses and training materials for national representatives participating in the biennial International Skills Olympics. The total accumulated sponsorship amounts to about 10 billion KRW. Through supporting the national team’s training, Samsung contributed to achieving excellent results at the International Skills Olympics and received the Prime Minister’s Group Commendation in 2009 and the Presidential Group Commendation in 2018.
