Jeonju City and 6 Universities Sign Joint ESG Practice Agreement
Jeonbuk National University, Jeonju University, Jeonju National University of Education, Jesus University, Gijeon University, and Vision University Participate... Realizing ESG Values
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonju City and six universities in the Jeonju area have agreed to join forces to realize ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) values that prioritize environmental and social responsibility in decision-making.
On the 18th, Jeonju City and Jeonbuk National University, Jeonju University, Jeonju National University of Education, Yesu University, Jeonju Kijeon University, and Jeonju Vision University signed the ‘Jeonju City-University ESG Joint Practice Agreement.’
The six universities set the ESG joint practice project goals as △creating eco-friendly campuses △contributing to the local community through talent sharing △establishing universities that respect student human rights △fostering a clean and equal university culture, and agreed to implement tasks for each goal.
The university student council presidents attending the agreement ceremony also pledged to support the execution of projects at the student council level to enhance the effectiveness of ESG practice tasks.
Jeonju City plans to finalize the ESG practice tasks through continuous communication and discussions via the ESG Working Council composed of working-level staff from the six universities.
Based on this, each university plans to promote the practice tasks step-by-step by the end of next year.
Jeonju City expects that by systematically carrying out meaningful and valuable projects in areas such as the environment and local community, the universities will lay the foundation for sustainable development.
Kim Seung-su, Mayor of Jeonju City, said, “ESG, which prioritizes the values of environment, society, and ethics, is not only the responsibility of companies but a common task that all humanity must explore together. We will actively cooperate to enable local universities leading the city’s growth to realize ESG management, and actively share and spread the achievements of each university.”
Meanwhile, ‘ESG,’ which stands for Environment, Social, and Governance, reflects factors affecting corporate value and sustainability from a long-term perspective, unlike the traditional method that judged only financial performance in decision-making by companies. Recently, global companies have been drawing attention by declaring ESG management one after another.
