20s Police Officer Arrested for Scamming Dozens with "Luxury Wallets for Sale" Scheme
Police: "Most of the damages compensated, reflecting on actions"... Scheduled for non-custodial transfer
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A man in his 20s who deceived dozens of people online by claiming to sell luxury wallets and collected money from them has been arrested by the police.
On the 16th, the Geumcheon Police Station in Seoul announced that they had booked a man in his 20s, identified as A, on charges of habitual fraud.
According to the police, A is suspected of posting on social networking services (SNS) since August this year, claiming to sell luxury wallets and other items, and defrauding about 11 million won from 22 people.
After A repeatedly ignored summons requests, the police applied for an arrest warrant and apprehended him near his home after staking out the area.
A, who is unemployed, was sentenced to one year in prison last August on charges of habitual fraud and was recently released, but is believed to have committed the crime again.
It has been confirmed that A has reimbursed the damages to 21 out of the 22 victims so far.
The police plan to send A to prosecution without detention after confirming whether there are additional victims.
