[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, continues his offensive against Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential primary candidate of the People Power Party.
Lee recently called on former Prosecutor General Yoon, who lost the first trial in a disciplinary appeal lawsuit, to "not only resign from the candidacy but also declare a suspension of political activities," and on the 16th, he asserted, "The one who will likely be imprisoned is not Lee Jae-myung but candidate Yoon Seok-yeol."
On that day, Lee said on his Facebook, "The People Power Party, the entrenched construction capitalists, and I, Lee Jae-myung, fought and recovered as much as 550.3 billion won through the Daejang-dong development project during my time as mayor of Seongnam. There are too many coincidences that candidate Yoon, who stands on the opposite side, cannot understand." Earlier, controversy arose after it was confirmed that Kim Mo, the sister of Kim Man-bae, the major shareholder of Hwacheon Daeyu, purchased the house of Yoon candidate’s father, Yoon Ki-jung, an honorary professor at Yonsei University.
Lee also raised suspicions of a lenient investigation, claiming that former Prosecutor General Yoon, as the lead prosecutor during the 2011 Busan Savings Bank investigation, excluded loans related to Daejang-dong from the scope of the investigation. Yoon’s camp has stated that this was merely a coincidence.
Regarding this, Lee pointed out on the same day, "Candidate Yoon has said it was a coincidence every time allegations related to him surfaced." He added, "At that time, even though public development by LH (Korea Land and Housing Corporation) was underway, the Busan Savings Bank Group lent a whopping 115.5 billion won from November 2009 as land purchase funds to developers pushing for private development against government policy."
He continued, "Despite being a risky speculative loan, it was excluded from the investigation," and added, "A person named A, related to Busan Savings Bank who initiated this loan, reportedly hired former Special Prosecutor Park Young-soo as a lawyer through the introduction of reporter Kim Man-bae to prepare for the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office’s Central Investigation Department investigation."
He also said, "Through Daejang-dong, three people appear: Yoon Seok-yeol, Kim Man-bae, and Park Young-soo."
