New Cases 1,618, Consecutive Two Days in 1,600s... Below 2,000 for 8 Days (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suhwan] Amid the continued spread of COVID-19, the number of new confirmed cases on the 16th recorded in the early 1600s.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight on that day, there were 1,618 new confirmed cases, bringing the total to 340,978.
The number of new confirmed cases decreased by 66 from the previous day (1,684). Compared to last Friday a week ago, when there were 1,953 cases, it is 335 fewer.
Looking at the infection routes of the new confirmed cases on that day, 1,594 were locally transmitted, and 24 were imported from overseas.
As the 4th wave, which began in early July centered around the 수도권 (Sudogwon, Seoul Metropolitan Area), continues, the daily confirmed cases have maintained four digits for 102 consecutive days since July 7 (1,211 cases).
It has recorded fewer than 2,000 cases for eight consecutive days.

There were concerns that the number of tests would increase after the Hangul Day holiday, potentially leading to a surge in cases, but after August 8 (2,172 cases), the number has not reached 2,000 again.
