On the 12th, as the spread of COVID-19 continues, a tour bus is parked at Tancheon Parking Lot in Songpa-gu, Seoul. In preparation for the increase in outdoor activities such as hiking and traveling during the autumn foliage season, the government has decided to strengthen quarantine management until the 14th of next month. Charter bus operators are required to mandatorily manage passenger lists using electronic entry logs with QR codes, and drivers must vocally guide passengers to wear masks and refrain from talking and eating to comply with quarantine rules. View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety is promoting safety management to minimize human and property damage as a cold wave warning is expected to be issued for most inland areas nationwide on the 17th.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration forecast, the nationwide morning low temperature on the 17th is expected to drop sharply by 10 to 15 degrees compared to the previous day, with strong winds expected on the west coast and Jeju Island.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety has instructed related ministries and local governments to visit or check on vulnerable groups to cold waves such as elderly living alone, homeless people, and residents of jjokbangchon (small room villages) through disaster helpers or by phone to confirm their safety and health.
Since the cold wave warning is issued in October, when there is a high volume of movement due to the autumn foliage season, guidance will be strengthened for hikers on maintaining warmth to prevent hypothermia and on the risks of slipping and falling on rainy roads.
Preventive activities will be intensified to avoid fires and suffocation accidents caused by the use of heating devices at campsites and camping grounds, and safety inspections will be conducted for vulnerable areas prone to road icing in mountainous regions after rain.
As temperatures drop sharply, early harvesting is encouraged to prevent cold damage to agricultural and marine products, secure and tie down crops against strong winds, and prevent fruit drop. Weather conditions and precautions will also be disseminated using TV, disaster text messages, and outdoor electronic billboards.
