[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, is adding the ‘Longevity Village Hangul Classroom 7th Grade Class 1’ in Seobaek Village, Baekjeon-myeon, the 3rd longevity village, following Changwon Village, Macheon-myeon, the 1st longevity village.
The Hangul classroom is a program proposed by the Longevity Village Health Committee for elders who did not have the opportunity to learn Hangul. It has been operated since last year in Changwon Village, Macheon-myeon, and from this year, it will also be operated in Seobaek Village, Baekjeon-myeon.
On the 14th, Seobaek Village, Baekjeon-myeon, held an entrance ceremony at the village hall for about 10 elders who had pre-registered, and classes were conducted together with a professional Korean language instructor.
Although the elders awkwardly write crooked letters using magnifying glasses and pencils, they seemed genuinely happy to be studying now, with smiles lasting throughout the class.
An elder who participated in the class said, “When I heard about the Hangul classroom, I wanted to learn but hesitated, worried about feeling embarrassed. However, when I actually came, the health center prepared school bags, notebooks, and pencils, and praised us for doing well, so it was fun and I’m glad I came,” smiling brightly.
