Yongin City to Introduce 85 Electric Buses by Next Year
[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province will introduce 85 electric buses by the end of next year.
Electric buses emit fewer pollutants, produce less noise and vibration compared to diesel-powered city buses, and are low-floor buses, making it easier for transportation-vulnerable groups such as the disabled and elderly to get on and off.
Yongin City plans to determine the routes for electric bus deployment by comprehensively considering bus demand and the distance to electric vehicle charging stations.
Earlier on the 9th, three electric buses were pilot-introduced on city bus route 20, which runs between Yongin Terminal and Gwangju Terminal. Four more buses will be added to the same route by the end of this year.
Along with the introduction of electric buses, electric charging stations capable of charging 142 electric buses will be built at three public bus garages in the city by the end of next year.
A city official explained, "We will solve air pollution problems by converting internal combustion engine buses to electric buses and improve services for bus users," adding, "In the long term, we plan to convert all buses except intercity buses to electric and hydrogen buses."
