Yoon: "If you don't change your mindset, the party should disappear"... Ryu: "Do you think the party is under your feet?"
Determined Yoon Seok-yeol Faces Criticism from Fellow Party Presidential Candidates
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Yoon Seok-yeol, former Prosecutor General and presidential candidate of the People Power Party, directly criticized fellow party candidates who have launched attacks against him, saying, "Whether we bring the regime to power or not is a secondary issue, but if we don't change this mindset first, it is right that our party disappears."
On the 13th, at the appointment ceremony of the Jeju campaign headquarters held by the People Power Party Jeju Provincial Party, Yoon said, "Once you enter the political arena, there is no distinction between the ruling and opposition parties."
He continued, "When facing the Democratic Party regime, if corruption is revealed, investigations are conducted, and if the truth is uncovered through investigations, it is dealt with accordingly. Despite doing such common-sense things, they tried to tear me apart."
He added, "Before entering politics, our party seniors said I was a 'truly excellent prosecutor who was persecuted for properly enforcing the law,' but once I stepped into politics, the persecution suddenly turned into suspicion. They attack me by aligning with the Democratic Party's frame. The Democratic Party regime has formed an investigation team bigger than the Daejang-dong investigation team to dig into me, and since nothing has come out, they are now investigating my family for a year and six months, trying to fabricate something. They are still scheming," he criticized.
He also questioned, "I have served in the prosecution for 26 years, truly avoiding money. If I had any weaknesses, could I have stood against such an unscrupulous regime?"
Yoon also pointed out remarks made by other party candidates, which is unusual compared to his previous avoidance of attacking fellow candidates. Earlier, former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min commented on the 'accusation briefing' suspicion, saying, "If the suspicion is true, wouldn't the relationship between 'Lee Jae-myung and Yoo Dong-gyu' be the same as that between 'former Prosecutor General Yoon and senior officials of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office'?" In response, Yoon said, "Is this something an opposition presidential candidate should say? Can such a person bring about regime change?"
Regarding People Power Party lawmaker Hong Joon-pyo's 'Jeju open casino pledge,' Yoon sharply criticized, "Irresponsible promises like this, which only construction businessmen would like, are being made by people in our party who want to become president, throwing bombs everywhere."
On the 14th, former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min responded to Yoon's remarks via Facebook. Yoo said, "In 22 years of politics, whether in the opposition or ruling party, I have been thoroughly investigated and not a speck of dust was found. Why talk about weaknesses to Yoo Seung-min?" He added, "Mind your own weaknesses, and if you're scared, go watch the 'Cheongong Master Jeongbeop video'."
He further questioned, "The mother-in-law who claimed she never took even 10 won was imprisoned for embezzling public funds. What about the stock manipulation suspicions involving his wife and mother-in-law, his own accusation briefing suspicion, the falsehood suspicions in the Yoon Woo-jin case, and the suspicion that Kim Man-bae of Hwacheon Daeyu bought his father's house?"
