Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters Provides No Parking Service Around Fire Hydrants
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi Provincial Fire and Disaster Headquarters has started a warning and guidance service prohibiting parking within 5 meters of fire hydrants.
On the 14th, the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters announced that since the 7th, it has been providing a 'No Parking Notification Service within 5 meters of Fire Hydrants' through KT's navigation service, W Navi.
To this end, the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters has loaded information on 29,453 fire hydrants across the province into KT's navigation information technology.
The area around fire hydrants is a place where parking or stopping is absolutely prohibited to ensure firefighters can quickly extinguish fires. According to the 2019 amendment to the Road Traffic Act, if caught parking or stopping within 5 meters of fire facilities such as fire hydrants, a fine of 80,000 KRW is imposed for passenger cars and 90,000 KRW for vans. This is about twice as high as the general illegal parking fine.
Following the fire hydrant route guidance and no parking notification service, the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters is also preparing to introduce a no parking notification service for children's protection zones.
Lee Sang-gyu, head of the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters, said, "This collaboration with KT will serve as a model case for building a national safety net using public data," and added, "We will continue to develop and distribute methods and technologies that can make citizens safer through public-private cooperation."
