After a month-long call for submissions targeting 248 local council members from local councils nationwide, the submitted materials and additional investigations were reviewed by experts including political science and diplomacy professors to select the awardees.
Councilor Im was highly evaluated for preventing the construction of the municipal arboretum through Suchuncheon Stream, which was losing its river functions, blocked by sediment and polluted, and promoting the creation of an eco-friendly ecological stream during her legislative activities such as city administration inquiries.
Councilor Im said, “In the era of carbon neutrality, restoring and expanding green spaces and the ecological environment of streams, which are carbon sinks, is a crucial matter directly connected to citizens’ lives. I will strive further to develop policies and establish budgets for creating ecological environments where citizens can enjoy rest and leisure.”
