Steel SC Hosts the 16th University Student 'Steel Challenge Competition'
Awarding a Prize of 10 Million Won to a Total of 21 Students
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] The Korea Iron & Steel Association's Steel Industry Human Resources Development Council (Steel SC) will host the 'Steel Challenge Competition' organized by the World Steel Association's Steel University.
Steel SC announced on the 12th that it will hold the Steel Challenge Competition for university students on November 24. The Steel Challenge Competition is held using the steel manufacturing simulator owned by Steel University, an educational institution under the World Steel Association.
Marking its 16th edition this year, the Steel Challenge Competition will take place for 24 hours from 9 PM on November 24 to 9 PM on November 25 Korea time. This year's competition processes are Secondary Steelmaking and Electric Arc Furnace.
In the Steel Challenge Competition, participants use the process simulation module installed on the Steel University website to compete by comparing the success of simulated steel operations and methods to produce steel at minimum manufacturing cost within the given time, determining the rankings. University (graduate) students wishing to participate must register in advance on the Steel Challenge website (Steeluniversity.org) and participate in the competition during the event period.
Before the competition, the Steel Association will hold a preliminary briefing session on October 13 at Dong-A University to share know-how on operating the Steel Challenge simulation module and competition experience, aiming to effectively guide participants in preparing for the competition. The briefing will also be broadcast live on the YouTube channel, and the video will be available for viewing anytime through the YouTube channel.
In this Steel Challenge Competition, the grand prize winner will receive a certificate and a prize of 2 million KRW; two gold prize winners will each receive 1 million KRW; three silver prize winners will each receive 500,000 KRW; and fifteen bronze prize winners will each receive 300,000 KRW. In total, 21 winners will be awarded prizes totaling 10 million KRW.
The Steel Challenge is divided into five regions: Americas, West Asia, North Asia, East Asia & Oceania, and Europe & Africa. Notably, regional winners will qualify to participate in the world competition held online in April 2022.
